Coral Reefs

One of the large impacts that humans have on the ocean around the islands of Hawaii is the destruction of the beautiful reefs around Hawaii. These reefs can be damaged by the touch from humans which happens a lot because of the mass amount of people on the islands on vacation. Pollution also depletes the coral reefs. Pollution from run off, trash, just pollution in general can damage the reefs.
Fishing

Fishing is an old as time hobby and way to get food. Game fishing can be dangerous to some of the endangered species of fish that live around the islands. People do not always throw the fish back that they are not supposed to catch. There are also sea turtles, dolphins, and other animals that get caught in fishing nets that could possibly kill them. There are countless ways to fix this problem with the fishing nets, the fishermen just do not want to upgrade and pay the extra money for better equipment. There are also cases where seals get struck by boat propellers which seriously harms them and sometimes kills them. With the Hawaiian Monk Seal (shown above) being endangered this is a serious problem. The most boating accidents towards the seals happen when boaters are moving quickly in no wake zones.
Pollution

Pollution is a world wide problem. Trash drifts in from other areas of the world and winds up on the coasts of the Hawaiian islands. There is also trash from the people that live on the islands but most of the trash drifts in from other parts of the world. There has always been run off pollution from car oil that eventually runs into the ocean. There is nothing different about that fact in Hawaii. The cars drip oil and it eventually drips into the water which poisons the water and sometimes blocks sunlight which damages and keeps the coral reefs from striving in the environment that
